Some reminiscences,some experiences

He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it,because he surely wasn't.

A momentous day

There are some days in a person's life that become special due to some momentous, life changing decisions associated with them. Today is one of those days. After a month of deliberation, I have finally decided to go to Stanford University and give myself another chance to prove my mettle. I have learned over the past month that in most of the decisions situations one has to deal with uncertainties. You can do your best to reduce them but they cannot be eliminated fully. In the end, you have to go with your gut feeling, follow your heart and trust yourself that things will work out fine.
As Steve Jobs once said, "You can only connect the dots looking backward, not forward. The important thing is to know what you like and then follow it with passion" I think that's the main difference between a western and an Indian mindset. In west, this value that one must always do what one things is right for him/her is cultivated early in the minds of young children. And the results are there for everyone to see. For all our intellect and emphasis on education, we are still not able to produce experts as most of us make our career decisions not by interest or choice, but circumstance (rank, money etc).
I have decided to give myself a chance to break through that litany.I am going to chuck a wonderful job, comfortable lifestyle and a certain career path for a course, the future prospects of which are still unclear . There is fear and hesitation, about whether I would be able to compete against the best; but atleast I would have tried. One thing is sure, I wont give up without a fight. That's the only thing I have learnt throughout my life, never to give up without a fight, and this belief has always kept me in good stead.
So Stanford, here I come. I know a lot of people before me have arrived with high hopes and aspirations, open your doors and let me a try my luck as well. I can just promise that I would leave no stone upturned to earn my place and be worthy of your name.
At this point, I cant help but remembering a famous quote from Robert Frost,
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
